Seven Mile Bridge Sunrise

This was a long drive that started early in the morning. I got up at 2am to get ready and out the door by 2:30am. I picked up a friend and drove down to Islamorada in the Florida Keys. We arrived at our first location around 5:30am and were able to photograph the Milky Way over the ocean till 6:15am. We then left to Drive down to the Seven Mile Bridge to catch the sunrise from the western end of the bridge. We got there just in time to setup and to catch the sunrise. the weather was perfect.

Key Biscayne Sunrise

Key Biscayne sunrise on a beautiful February morning. We arrived on Key Biscayne around 5:30am to find the marina parking lot closed till 6am, so we went for a drive around Key Biscayne. the Island has changed so much over the past 40 years since I had once worked on the Island. We got back to the Marina as it began to open. Once parked, we walked for about 20-25 minutes to find a boardwalk above the petrified reef. I remember the petrified reef well, from my youth when my mom would walk us from a parking lot that once existed on the north end by the bridge. We use to snorkel along those shallow areas of the petrified reef to see tropical fish and invertebrates. Great memories. Now it is prohibited to walk over the petrified reef to help preserve it, the area is still beautiful and worth the walk.
